Waivers and Exemptions

What are Waivers and Exemptions?

Waivers allow certain nonresident students to pay the Texas resident tuition rate.

Exemptions are a type of financial assistance allowing some Texas residents to attend a public college or university in Texas without paying tuition or, in some cases, tuition and fees.

NOTE: Exemptions are not considered payment under state payment guidelines.  A student who does not yet have the exemption applied to their account may still be subject to cancellation if they fail to meet the state payment requirements.

Submission of waivers and exemptions must be requested during the term in which the student is registered. Such requests must be made prior to the 12th class day in Fall and Spring semester and the 4th class day in Summer sessions.  Requests for retroactive refunds cannot be honored.
